Welcome to the Spiritual Bee’s collection of Great Truth Quotes!

In the history of the world, humanity has always placed the highest emphasis on truth. Truth however, is not simply a matter of “not telling a lie” – it is much more than that.

In this collection of truth quotes, I have endeavored to uncover some of truth’s deeper meanings.

It is an interesting fact, that the desire for truth is innate in man. It is not something that can be externally imposed, but which comes from within.

Nothing satisfies us like knowing the truth, because only then, do we come face to face with reality, all doubts cease and we become one with knowledge itself.

A simple example of this is the ancient man who was frightened of eclipses. It was only when science advanced and man understood the truth – that eclipses were caused by the revolution of the earth and the moon – that all superstitions ceased and he was liberated from his fear.

This hunger for truth has sent man searching for the principles governing both the outside material world as well as his inner spiritual world. The quest for material truths has resulted in the greatest advances in science that mankind has ever seen. In less than 150 years, science has linked up the world like never before.

What is perhaps less recognized, are the advances mankind has made in the quest for spiritual truths. Through the ages, in different parts of the world, great teachers have arisen, who have strived to realize the unifying truths beneath this diversity of Creation.

“It is the function of our intellect to realise the Truth through Untruths.
Knowledge is nothing but the continually burning up of error to set free the light of Truth.”
– Rabindranath Tagore

Their profound moral teachings have all focused on one explicit purpose – to raise the collective consciousness of humanity, i.e. to expand man’s awareness beyond his narrow self, so that he embraces the well-being of others as his own. From the ancient sages of the Upanishads; from Krishna the preacher of the Bhagavad Gita; from Buddha; from Moses, Christ and Mohammed; and from countless others, this stream of moral truths has flowed forth, to inundate the world.

Our modern day values of equality, freedom, liberty, justice, and democracy, all have their genesis in the invaluable efforts of these illumed teachers, whose love of truth, have made possible, the dreams of yesterday.

“Gladness is the one criterion of Truth, and we know when we have touched Truth by the joy of greeting it sends forth.”
– Rabindranath Tagore

The great King Bhartrihari said – “Let the sages blame or let them praise; let the goddess of fortune come or let her go wherever she likes; let death come to-day, or let it come in hundreds of years; he indeed is the steady man who does not move one inch from the way of truth.”

Truth is Enlightening, Invigorating and Strengthening

Truth is enlightening and invigorating. It is truth alone that gives strength. Truth alone gives life, and nothing but going towards reality will make us strong, and none will reach truth until they are strong.

Strength, therefore, is the one thing that we want. Strengthening is the medicine which the poor must have when tyrannised over by the rich. Strength is the medicine that the ignorant must have when oppressed by the learned; and it is the medicine that sinners must have when tyrannised over by other sinners.

– A great quote about truth from the book “Speeches and Writings of Swami Vivekananda”.

What one wishes is to be touched by truth and to be able to interpret that truth. These moments of enlightenment are what I continue to live for.

The Great Enemy of Truth is Often the Myth Persistent

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie deliberate, contrived, and dishonest; but the myth persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
