Don’t Pluck Flowers, for Plants Worship God with their Blossoms

God is seated not just in the temple, but he is present even in the heart of trees who worship the Cosmic Divine Consciousness (God) with their beautiful blossoms.

The previous message by Maharshi Ramana on not plucking flowers has also been emphasized by Swami Brahmananda, who was a God-realized direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. The harmony in both their messages shows that God realized sages all teach the same truth, because they have experienced the SAME reality. For this reason their teachings do not contradict, but are in line with one another.

Swami Brahmananda, God Realized sage and direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna

One day, Swami Brahmananda saw a new brahmacharin plucking flowers for the Master, Sri Ramakrishna’s worship. He rebuked him sharply:

“What are you doing? Do you want to make that tree devoid of flowers? You think Sri Ramakrishna is seated only in the shrine and does not come to the garden?

Pick those flowers only which are hidden behind the leaves and always leave some flowers outside in each tree.”

To Brahmananda Maharaj, those trees were also worshiping the cosmic God with their blossoms, and hence we should not pluck flowers selfishly and destroy their worship.

Even Plants and Animals Are Conscious
We must get out of “the human mental limitations and see the Cosmic Consciousness on earth individualizing itself in all forms – plant, animal, man and growing towards what is beyond man.”
– Sri Aurobindo
