How to Get a Sattvic Mind?

Do you know, those who are much given to contemplation on God develop a subtle and pure mind. Whatever object such a mind takes hold of, it sticks to it tenaciously.
– Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi

A sattvic mind is needed to meditate. It is needed to meet God and to converse with Him. The more our mind is Sattvic the better guidance we can receive from the Divine.

But is eating vegetarian food without onion and garlic sufficient to make the mind sattvic? It is not. It is only a small step in the right direction. Then what else should we do?

Sarada Ma has provided the answer in the above quote. Spend more and more time thinking about God and guru. This steady contemplation is one of the many ways in which we can make our mind more Sattvic.

And how do we immerse ourselves in this contemplation? Reading spiritual books about guru’s life and teachings is a superb, superb way.

One of the best books to read on Sarada Ma is ‘Sri Sarada Devi and Her Divine Play’, which can be purchased from the Advaita Ashrama online bookstore.
