Dr. Pranav Pandya’s prarabdha karmas had ripened and were about to take an ominously punishing shape. However, such was the protective Grace of his guru that the fatal outcome was reduced and his life saved.
This story carries three important learnings for us:
- The first is that God-realized gurus don’t always wipe away our past bad karmas completely. If some lessons are yet remaining for us to learn, they reduce the karmic punishment to a bearable form.
- The second is that in order to help us the guru need not be physically present, right beside us, at each and every moment of our life. It is the guru’s omnipresent spiritual force that does the work of giving the right help at the right time and at the right place.
- How do we attract this type of an intervention from Pandit Shriram Sharma or any other God-realized guru whom we have faith in? The best way is by actively doing the work of spreading their Advaita Vedanta teachings far and wide.
Pandit Shriram Sharma, has stated in numerous places, “My children, you do my work, and I will do your work. If a calamity is about to befall you, if your family member is sick, if your business is not doing well, I will certainly use my tapas-shakti (yogic powers garnered through penance) to help you, but you too must do my work.”
Today the world is in heavy turmoil. It is only the spiritual teachings of Advaita Vedanta that will save it. And though the gurus, whom I represent on the Spiritual Bee, have all left their bodies, their work is still pending.
We are born in this special time to do the work of spreading their teachings. This is our work. This is how we shall attain spiritual nearness to them and, like Dr. Pranav Pandya, attract their Grace in our lives.
The same call has been given by Swami Vivekananda:
“Shankara left this Advaita philosophy in the hills and forests, while I have come to bring it out of those places and scatter it broadcast before the workaday world and society. The lion-roar of Advaita must resound in every hearth and home, in meadows and groves, over hills and plains. Come all of you to my assistance and set yourselves to work.”
